EU Public Affairs Pioneer Paul Adamson Joins Covington

BRUSSELS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Covington & Burling is pleased to announce that Paul Adamson, a renowned leader in European public affairs, has joined its ranks as senior policy advisor, strengthening the firm’s ability to help clients navigate global government regulations.

“Paul’s deep knowledge of EU public policy will be extremely valuable to our clients as we counsel them on challenging legal government affairs issues across three continents,” said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm’s management committee.

Mr. Adamson will be resident in the firm’s Brussels office and will work closely with the firm’s global government affairs team, alongside former Ambassador Jean De Ruyt, who served as Belgium’s permanent representative to the European Union; Wim van Velzen, who served for a decade in the European Parliament and as vice president of the EPP Group; Stu Eizenstat, who served in three American presidential administrations in roles that included ambassador to the EU; and former Ambassador John Veroneau, who served as deputy U.S. Trade Representative.

Mr. Adamson’s career spans public policy and publishing. After a brief stint in the European Parliament, he embarked on a career in public affairs, where he is widely seen as a pioneer for his successful advocacy. As the founder of Adamson Associates, he advised clients about legislation and policy matters in the European Union.

Mr. Adamson is a trustee of the Citizenship Foundation, a board member of the Euclid Network, the European organisation for the third sector and social entrepreneurs. He is also on Rand Europe’s Council of Advisors. He serves on the advisory group of the polling think tank YouGov-Cambridge and the advisory board of the Washington European Society. In addition, he is a patron of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies and an academician of the UK Academy of Social Sciences.

In the Queen’s New Year Honours 2012 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire “for services to promoting understanding of the European Union.”

“I am delighted to join such a distinguished team of former policymakers, each of whom has a keen understanding of European public policy,” Mr. Adamson said. “I also see this as an opportunity to offer clients a strong D.C.-Brussels policy connection, which has become increasingly critical as Europe and the U.S. work more closely together to develop and enforce regulations.”
