CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from two voice over IP (VoIP) reports: UC Deployment Strategies and Vendor Leadership: North American Enterprise Survey, which explores enterprise plans for unified communications (UC) and their perceptions of UC vendors, and VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers Market Share and Forecast, which tracks service providers and their VoIP and UC services revenue and subscribers.
UC DEPLOYMENT STRATEGIES SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
“Our unified communications survey reveals a really important shift taking place as enterprises increasingly use mobile devices to access UC applications,” notes Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC, and IMS at Infonetics Research. “Survey respondents indicate that smartphones and tablets will be the two most widely used devices for UC in 2013, passing traditional computers and deskphones.”
- The top drivers for deploying UC are improving employee response time, mobility, flexibility, and productivity
- In a shift from previous years’ Infonetics surveys, complexity displaced cost as the leading barrier affecting UC deployment
- When choosing a UC solution, 71% of survey respondents view mobile device integration as “very important”
- Cisco is the most installed UC supplier among enterprises surveyed, followed by Microsoft and IBM
UC SURVEY SYNOPSIS
For its 29-page Unified Communications survey, Infonetics interviewed 102 UC purchase-decision makers at medium and large enterprises that use VoIP, e-mail, and instant messaging. The report analyzes key trends in the market based on end-user responses about UC communication devices, reasons for and against deploying UC, important UC capabilities, mobile and video requirements, and UC vendors. The survey features enterprise ratings of 11 unified communications vendors: Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Avaya, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, Mitel, NEC, ShoreTel, Siemens, and Verizon. VOIP AND UC SERVICES MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
“The SIP trunking and hosted UC segments were marked by strong growth and dynamic supplier landscapes in the first half of 2012,” adds Myers. “Beyond traditional operators and service providers, we’re seeing a growing number of PBX/UC vendors, enterprise agents, system integrators, and resellers expanding into hosted UC offerings.”
- Infonetics predicts a cumulative $377 billion will be spent on business and residential/SOHO VoIP services over the 5 years from 2012 to 2016, driven primarily by SIP trunking and hosted VoIP/UC services
- NTT, the perennial leader of residential VoIP market, topped 14 million subscribers in 2Q12
- Roughly 15%–20% of all new IP PBX lines sold are part of a managed service or outsourced contract, making managed IP PBX the largest segment of business VoIP services
- SIP trunking revenue grew 23% in the first half of 2012 compared to the second half of 2011, led by strong activity in North America
