Medica Individual and Family Plans Rank Tops in Minnesota by U.S. News

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Medica health insurance offerings for individuals and families are highly rated in a ranking by U.S. News published October 4, 2012. Plans were scored and assigned a rating of one to five stars. Some highlights from the ranking are:

  • Of the 18 individual plans rated at five stars, Medica had the most with 13, or 72 percent of the total.
  • 77 percent (24 of 31) of Medica individual plans rated by U.S. News achieved either a four-star or five-star rating, highest among Minnesota’s major health plans.
  • Of the 30 family plans rated at five stars, Medica had the most with 20, or 67 percent of the total.
  • Of Medica’s 23 rated family plans, 87 percent were rated at five stars, the highest percentage among major Minnesota health plans.

“We are delighted with these ratings, which help underscore the value that Medica brings to individual and family coverage,” said Dannette Coleman, Medica vice president for Individual and Family Plans. “Medica has worked very hard to create health insurance products for individuals and families that provide them with the coverage they need at a price they can afford.”

The methodology for the rankings takes into account each plan’s coverage for prescription drugs, hospitalization and other care as well as the cost of the coverage. Costs, for purposes of the rankings, include monthly premium, deductibles, copays and coinsurance. Data for the rankings was provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
