More Retailers At MAPIC 2012

PARIS, Oct. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MAPIC, the leading international retail real-estate event, announces a rise in the number of retailers attending. Some 2,400 retail brand representatives are expected to attend MAPIC 2012 compared to nearly 2,300 last year. Organised by Reed MIDEM, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, MAPIC will be held in Cannes from 14 to 16 November.

Among newcomer international brands at MAPIC, there are several well-known names in the catering sector such as the British cafe chain Costa Ltd, one of the largest in the world with 1,900 outlets in the UK and abroad, and the US giant Dairy Queen that operates in 20 countries. Big names in the textile and accessories sectors will also make a first appearance this year, including Calvin Klein Jeans, Tiffany & Co, Baby Gap and Gap Kids, and Dim.

As well as reflecting changes in the market, MAPIC also mirrors recent consumer trends. For example, with a global smartphone market growing by more than 40% in one year (source: Gartner) and 18.3 million mobile users in France alone (source Mediametrie), new companies specialising in mobile phone accessories will be attending MAPIC, including The Kase (France) or Cellairis (US), which sells a broad range of case designs for smartphones through its multiple franchises in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom and online.

In reaction to the proliferation of retail channels that are driving the growth of e-commerce and m-commerce, retailers are increasingly attempting to add real value to their bricks and mortar premises or specialise in niche markets where there is less competition.

Several retailers attending MAPIC this year illustrate these trends. For example, Sports d'Epoque (France), which sells a range of re-editions of mythical sports jerseys and other articles, and Best4youkids (Poland), a children's play concept that offers obstacle courses and creative activities, and Delice Delikatessen (Germany), a concept store that offers delicatessen, accessories and cooking workshops, with plans to grow internationally.

Catering is another major innovation sector as evidenced by the British company Tuk Cho that provides culinary specialties from all over South East Asia, the eco-citizen Italian gelato brand Grom, operating in the United States, France and Japan as well as in Italy that owns its own farm producing biological fruits in respect of seasons and the environment and launched the "Grom Loves World" environmental project, and Roasting Plant NY Inc. (USA), a specialty coffee retailer that offers no fewer than 11 exclusive varieties in shops and restaurants.

Deciphering the latest consumer trends and analysing how new technologies impact retail real estate will also feature in the More VISION by MAPIC programme which will provide a strategic vision of the future of retailing during a digital summit, as well as concrete examples in the exhibition area at the More VISION by MAPIC pavilion.
