Silicon Designer Allows for Real-Time iPad App Creation Online

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Silicon Publishing announced at the GraphExpo conference in Chicago today that their Silicon Designer product now supports real-time output to applications on iPad and Android tablets. This technology was developed in partnership with Adobe, and utilizes the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite for production of personalized content within a branded application.

With the next generation of Silicon Designer, a photobook manufacturer can let users go online and create a photobook, and publish not only the print version, but additionally a personalized iPad app immediately available in the app store. Through this new output format, the user’s friends can have a digital experience in addition to, or instead of, a printed book. Interactive features include video, audio, slide shows, and image/page transitions.

Max Dunn, President of Silicon Publishing, said, “We're excited to offer another channel of output to our editor, and very happy to see DPS mature into an extensible product. The fact that it uses our favorite document creation tool, Adobe InDesign, as a means of creating iPad applications, gives us great control as we bring it to server-based applications. As the world leader at InDesign Server solutions we are uniquely positioned to bring DPS to new markets.”

Silicon Designer, first announced at GraphExpo 2009, is known as the best browser-based editing experience available. Silicon Designer’s rich feature set and innovative approach allows direct, real-time, on-canvas editing of a wide range of documents, from business collateral to greeting cards and photobooks. The true WYSIWYG editing environment is guaranteed to match the fidelity of high-quality output.

Silicon Designer can be configured to specific requirements for very different document types and desired user experiences. The application may be easily customized; for example the interface can be skinned to reflect brand identity, can integrate with diverse back-end systems, and enforce business rules using web services. Design constraints such as limiting font or color choices are easily configured as part of the template design process.

Silicon Designer is built on industry-standard technologies to deliver high-quality output. It renders final form output using Adobe InDesign Server, XMPie, or HTML5. The new tablet application output from the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite allows for new publishing workflows that were never before possible. DPS supports output not only to the iPad but to other tablet devices as well, across various form factors.
