Shares fell after the World Bank cut its growth forecasts for East Asia, underscoring concerns about the global economic climate and corporate profits on the cusp of the kickoff of the quarterly earnings season.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 41.40 points, or 0.30 percent, at 13,568.75. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 5.14 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,455.79. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 16.92 points, or 0.54 percent, at 3,119.27.

Shares of Prepaid card companies Green Dot and NetSpend fell after Wal-Mart and American Express announced a partnership to offer customers an alternative to debit and checking accounts.

** RENEWABLE ENERGY GROUP , $5.99, down 15.8 pct (0941 ET)

The company said it would post an adjusted core loss for the third quarter as biodiesel prices fell by more than a third.

** AFFYMETRIX INC , $3.60, down 16.5 pct (0942 ET)

The genetic analysis products maker forecast its third-quarter revenue below Street estimates, citing the tightening academic funding environment worldwide that reduced revenues in its gene expression and eBioscience business units.

The company estimated a total revenue of $80 million compared with analyst estimates of $84.6 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

** NBT BANCORP INC , $21.21, down 4.24 pct (0944 ET)

NBT said it agreed to buy Alliance Financial in a deal valued at about $233.4 million to expand its footprint in New York.

** TPC GROUP INC , $45.08, up 10.8 pct (0944 ET) ** INNOSPEC INC , $33.91, down 1.23 pct (0945 ET)

The chemicals maker said it received a buyout proposal from Innospec for $721.3 million, topping an offer made by private equity firms First Reserve Corp and SK Capital Partners.

** PROGRESS SOFTWARE CORP , $18.87, down 12.1 pct (0946 ET)

The database management software maker said it could see some revenue slippage in the current quarter as a result of the resignation of Chief Executive Jay Bhatt.

** ALLSCRIPTS HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS INC , $13.96, up 4.73 pct (0946 ET)

Bloomberg reported that the healthcare IT company received offers from a private-equity consortium, including Blackstone Group LP and Carlyle Group LP .

** NETFLIX INC , $71.77, up 7.84 pct (0947 ET)

Morgan Stanley upgraded the video streaming company to "overweight" from "equalweight," saying the company is poised to leverage its domestic cost structure and potentially become a global video platform.

** NAVISTAR INTERNATIONAL CORP , $22.31, up 5.18 pct (0948 ET)

The company agreed to appoint three new members to its board, preventing a proxy fight with activist investors Carl Icahn and Mark Rachesky.

** OCLARO INC , $2.46, down 6.46 pct (0949 ET)

The optical components maker announced preliminary first-quarter revenue of $149 million - below analysts' estimates of $162.2 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
