XOJET Hosts Unique "Soundscape" at Art Platform-Los Angeles

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Early on the morning of September 27, one of our beautiful XOJET Challenger 300 private jets arrived at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, for the VIP Opening Preview of Art Platform-Los Angeles. But we weren't there to pick up passengers. We were part of the show itself!

As part of our sponsorship of the show, XOJET commissioned visual/sound artist Steve Roden to create a "soundwork" for one of our customized XOJET Challenger 300 jets. Obviously, aircraft aren't a typical environment for an artistic installation, but the XOJET Challenger 300 jet has a unique sound system, developed in partnership with Lufthansa Technik. The walls of the plane vibrate and actually act as speakers, radiating sound into the cabin with minimum distortion.

Meanwhile, Bombardier's Quiet Cabin technology blocks out outside engine noise. (In fact, XOJET is the first private jet company to combine the Technik's audio system with Quiet Cabin technology). The result is a totally immersive environment--perfect for Roden's soundscapes.

At this point you might be asking: What is a soundscape, anyway? Here's how Roden describes it:

"...in the sound works, singular source materials such as objects, architectural spaces, and field recordings are abstracted through humble electronic processes to create new audio spaces, or possible landscapes. the sound works present themselves with an aesthetic roden has described as lower case--sound concerned with subtlety and the quiet activity of listening."

Roden has created numerous site-specific sound works for spaces such as the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Pacific Design Center, the Henry Art Gallery's James Turrell Skyspace, and the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles.

At Art Platform-Los Angeles, art patrons listened to four Roden soundscapes aboard the XOJET Challenger 300: "Berlin," "Marfa," "Parkfield" and "Wyoming." Listen to an excerpt from "Wyoming".

VIP guests lined up well into the evening to experience Roden's work and the beautiful interior of the jet while sipping drinks from 10 Cane Rum.
