The American Small Business League (ASBL) has asked Governor Mitt Romney to expose the Obama administration’s abysmal track record for small businesses in the next presidential debate. In the last debate, President Obama challenged Governor Romney’s definition of a small business by saying that Donald Trump would be included in Mr. Romney’s definition of small businesses.
In an open letter on October 11, 2012, the ASBL asked Governor Romney to expose the fact that the Obama administration has given federal small business contracts to a who’s who of corporate giants, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, AT&T, Dell, Motorola, Harris Corporation, Xerox, Office Depot, Apple, John Deere, Italian defense giant Finmeccanica and Russian state-owned arms broker Rosoboronexport.
Every year that President Obama has been in office the Small Business Administration Office of Inspector General has stated that the number one challenge at the agency is the fact that federal small business contracts are being diverted to some of the largest companies in the world.
In July 2012, NBC did an investigative story and found that the Obama administration had given small business contracts to Oracle, IBM, Microsoft and other large companies.
Since 2003, a series of federal investigations have uncovered billions of dollars in federal small business contracts being awarded to large businesses annually.
President Obama realized the magnitude of the problem during his campaign in 2008 when he issued the statement, “It is time to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to corporate giants.”
“If Mitt Romney wants to win this election he would go on national television and read the names of the large companies that President Obama has given federal small business contracts to,” said ASBL President Lloyd Chapman.
