Healthways gets Tennessee health program contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Wellness program administrator Healthways Inc. said Monday it received a contract with a health plan that covers Tennessee state and local government employees and their families.

Healthways said it will manage the state's Partners for Health programs. It will offer programs to the 277,000 people who get their health benefits through the State of Tennessee Group Insurance Program.

The company said the five-year contract will start Jan. 1.

Healthways did not disclose terms of the agreement, but said it will create 100 new jobs in Tennessee.

Shares of Healthways rose 25 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $11.34 in morning trading.
