Delta Air Lines launched a new, free Apple iPad app Friday with a host of new features, including an interactive trip map called "Glass Bottom Jet."
The new app, part of a $140 million technology upgrade the airline debuted in 2012, incorporates many features such as booking tickets, flight check-in and destination guides. The app also brings flights to life when used onboard and connected to Wi-Fi.

The app allows fliers to view points of interest on a Google map. The interactive map lets a user tap icons, which bring up static, existing Wikipedia pages and photos for the landmarks they're flying over. It also includes Facebook functionality showing the location of your friends you may be flying over.
"I found (it) to be kind of interesting, entertaining even," said Marshall Jackson, a travel blogger who authors MJ on Travel on BoardingArea.com, after using Glass Bottom Jet on his flight on Friday.
"The incredible functionality and innovation found in the new iPad app embodies all that we're doing to further improve the digital experience customers have with Delta," said Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice president—network planning, revenue management and marketing, in a press release. Additional features on the Fly Delta app include viewing and changing seat assignments, tracking the upgrade list, tracking and paying for bags, receiving travel alerts, viewing airport and aircraft details and setting a parking reminder.
