Northrop Grumman earnings top expectations

Northrop Grumman reported quarterly earnings and revenue that surpassed analysts' expectations on Wednesday.

After the earnings announcement, the company's shares rose in pre-market trading. (Click here to get the latest quotes for the company's shares.)

The company posted second-quarter earnings excluding items of $1.97 per share, up from $1.88 a share in the year-earlier period.

Revenue increased to $6.29 billion from $6.27 billion a year ago.

Analysts had expected the security company to report earnings excluding items of $1.71 a share on $5.98 billion in revenue, according to a consensus estimate from Thomson Reuters.
