Ronald McDonald gets a new look; Twitter says, 'NotLovinIt'

The Twitterverse has spoken: Ronald McDonald's new look has gotten a thumbs down so far.

Two days after McDonald's unveiled a makeover for the mascot, Twitter users weighed in, vaulting the phrase "NotLovinIt" to Twitter's trending list for the U.S. "Ronald McDonald" also trended on Friday.

Earlier Friday, the Twitter account of NBC's "TODAY" asked followers whether they loved the look, which prompted a flood of responses.

Ronald McDonald: Out with the old, in with the new...

As part of his makeover, Ronald dumped his jumpsuit in favor of yellow cargo pants, a vest and a red-and-white striped rugby shirt. The shoes got to stay.

The fast food giant also said Ronald would take an active role on its social media accounts for the first time. Judging from Twitter's response, this social media debut may be off to a slightly rocky start.

In an email to CNBC, McDonald's spokeswoman Becca Hary said, "We've been pleased with the reaction Ronald has received on social media with his new debut. Ronald is new to social media and is dipping his toes in right now rather than jumping in with both big red shoes."

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Ronald's new look?
