The family owners of beer company Heineken have rejected a takeover approach from beer conglomerate SABMiller, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing sources.
The report said world No. 2 brewer SABMiller was interested in taking over Heineken as a way of fending off a potential approach from larger rival AB InBev.
Heineken's controlling shareholder, Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, ranks as one of the world's richest women with a fortune of $12 billion, according to Forbes.
