European Stocks to Watch

Here some of Monday's big movers on European stock markets: TUI, ABN Amro, Capitalia, AstraZeneca and Alcatel-Lucent.

TUI (up 12.24%) Shares of German travel and shipping company TUI soared after the company reported Monday that its tourism unit will merge with Britain’s First Choice.

ABN Amro (up 8.02%) ABN Amro’s shares rose on reports that Barclays is in talks with the Dutch bank about a tie-up.

Capitalia (up 5.99%) Capitalia’s shares on speculation it has a chance to merge with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The news that ABN Amro, Capitalia's largest shareholder, may receive an offer from Barclays is also fueling speculation.

AstraZeneca (down 1.70%) Shares fell after AstraZeneca reported Monday that a heart drug failed in a late-stage trial.

Alcatel-Lucent (down 0.67%) Telecom equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent’s shares dipped after CEO Patrica Russo told French daily La Tribune that it remains resolute to its plan to cut 12,500 jobs and there are no plans to outsource its Research and Development jobs to emerging markets.
