Premiere plans to increase the price subscribers pay to watch Bundesliga soccer matches by a third if it regains the right to broadcast the matches in Germany, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported, citing industry sources.
The Bundesliga programme package will cost 19.90 euros a month, considerably more than the 14.90 euros subscribers pay at Arena, which currently holds the live television broadcasting rights for the matches, the newspaper said.
A spokesman for Premiere declined to comment on the matter.
The German Federal Cartel Office is expected to make a decision next week that will end a three-month dispute with Premiere and Arena, it said.
Premiere in April stopped selling Arena due to an investigation by the Cartel Office, which had concerns over a deal by which Premiere earlier this year obtained rights to distribute and market Bundesliga matches via satellite.
Premiere had agreed to give Arena a 16.7% stake in the company in exchange for non-exclusive satellite marketing rights.
But according to recent reports, Arena may now sublicense its TV broadcasting rights to Premiere and discontinue its soccer channel to end the Cartel Office investigation.
