Chartology: Commodities King

Could the threat of a recession end the bull run in gold, oil and other commodities? Strategic investor Dennis Gartman, author of The Gartman Letter joins the panel for this conversation.

How do you play this market?

I’m long of natural gas and short of crude oil, says Gartman. I think nat gas is cheap relative to crude oil, right now.

What’s your favorite play?

We’re long San Juan Basin Royalty Trust (SJT) and United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) on the nat-gas side, Gartman replies.

How about gold?

On Tuesday traders moved out of gold because they had to meet margin calls, but is gold going to be higher 6 months from now? Almost certainly it will be, says Gartman.

Unless the dollar turns around, or inflation turns around or reserve banks change their policies I think gold will move higher in the long term, he concludes.
