It seems large companies are either acquiring or building small brands to attract niche customers. What's the trade as 'hometown' brands drive growth?
CNBC trend titan Donny Deutsch, host of "The Big Idea"joins the panel for this conversation. Following is a summary of his main points.
Who's the big winner?
Microbrews can only do so much for the beer giants. I think the real winner is Vitamin Water which was bought by Coke , says Deutsch. I think the upside is tremendous. The sky’s the limit.
You don’t think Coke will reduce it’s hipster appeal?
If all of a sudden Vitamin Water starts to feel generic, then get out, says Deutsch. It’s critical for these brands to maintain their individuality.
Anything else?
Watch what Clorox does with Burt’s Bees. That could also be huge.
Trader’s what do you think?
I like Molson Coors , says Jeff Macke
Or look at Hansen , adds Guy Adami. They could be a takeover target.
