The average 30-year mortgage rose last week to 5.25% from 5.1%, according to FREDDIEMAC.COM. A year earlier, the rate stood at 5.67%
CD Yields dropped again last week. The average yield for one-year CD's fell to 1.61% from 1.63%, while the 5-year fell to 2.34% from 2.38%, according to BANKRATE.COM.
CONSUMER ALERT
Dorel has recalled 100,000 of its Safety First Stair Gates for toddlers. The company and the Consumer Protection Safety Commission report that the the hinges on the gates can break, though no incidents of harm to kids have been reported. To learn more, head to CPSC.GOV.
The Better Business Bureau has reissued a warningto all automobile owners to be wary of telemarketing calls and mail that claim your warranty has or is about to expire. The Bureau calls the solicitations "deceptive" and their offers for new or extended warranties are "of questionable value."
