Hey, Big Mover

Thursday could be ripe with hot opportunities for traders. Research In Motion reports earnings and what they say could send ripples throughout the market.

If history is any indication even if results don’t move the market, they should move Research In Motion’s stock. Over the past year share price has made big moves after the numbers came out. Take a look:

Tomorrow ?

So what should you expect on Thursday?

From what we can tell RIM’s latest results should be bullish. "We're expecting a pretty good report and outlook," says Broadpoint AmTech analyst Mark McKechnie. For the first quarter, ended May 30, analysts expect RIM to post earnings of 92 cents a share on revenue of about $3.4 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.

Taking a look behind those numbers, McKechnie and other analysts will be watching for subscriber additions, gross margins and the number of BlackBerry smartphones shipped.

"RIM has shown throughout the recession continued strong subscriber growth, continued growth in market share on both the enterprise as well as the consumer side," adds independent technology analyst Carmi Levy.

The enterprise market -- a jargon term for corporate clients -- has grown steadily for RIM even as analysts fretted that companies might cut spending due to the weak economy,

Also consumers have remained eager to buy the latest BlackBerry models, despite attempts by Apple to win individual subscribers.

Indeed, if RIM hits its forecast by adding up to 3.9 million new subscribers in the latest quarter, its total user base will stand at about 29 million.

What’s the trade?

We have a $100 price target on Research In Motion stock, reveals Citigroup analyst Jim Suva.

I’m looking to get long around $73, adds Joe Terranova.

I’d sell the puts in RIMM so I can own stock cheaper then where it is now, counsels Jon Najarian.

If you want another trade I like Nokia , says Tim Seymour.
