Know Your Fellow Shareholders

Cramer's always been adamant that investors "know what they own." But these days it's also important to know who else owns your stocks.

Case in point: Hedge funds have held large positions in commodity, infrastructure and other companies, and their massive selling in the recent past has forced down share prices in these sectors. But this has happened only because these funds have performed so poorly that clients want their money back. As a result, the hedgies dump tons of shares into the market, killing any returns you thought you had, if you were unlucky enough to also own these stocks.
