According to the US government, the availability of water may be one of the biggest challenges facing the 21st century. They say, “Water shortage and use conflict have become more commonplace in many areas of the United States for irrigation of crops, for growing cities, new communities, (and more).”
That’s not just the conclusion of one report. A growing number of experts agree that something we take for granted, fresh water, may be anything but widely available in decades to come.
And one of the companies at the heart of the nation’s water works – as well as this issue -- is Aqua America.
Based in Pennsylvania, Aqua America runs utilities that provide water for approximately three million people in 13 states. Keenly aware of the growing importance of access to water, on Tuesday the firm’s Texas subsidiary acquired two water systems from the Lower Colorado River Authority.
