Regis Philbin: The Fast Money Trader

Ever since the traders heard that Regis Philbin plays the markets and is also a big fan of Fast Money, the gang has been itching to get him on the show. So what do the traders have to say about the TV host’s personal portfolio? What are his stock picks?

Right off the bat, Regis demonstrates his love for Alcoa, a stock which the traders - sans Tim Seymour – advised against. “I think it’s going to stay up there and go a little more. Thank God I hung on to that one,” says Regis “it’s one of the few I have showing a profit.”

If that wasn’t enough, Pete Najarian’s call on Pfizer got Regis a little heated: “When is Pfizer going to make a move?!” Regis exclaimed, “I’m sick and tired of hearing what a great pharmaceutical it is… when is the stock going to move?”

Some people may not expect Regis Philbin to be an investor type, but he’s been actively trading since 1983. “I didn’t really get involved into the market until I came back to New York… then CNBC came on and it was wonderful. Every day you could turn on the TV and see what you were going to invest in. You hooked me,” he laughed. Regis also confessed to watching CNBC somewhat religiously, prior to going on the air and after the markets close, tuning in to Fast Money.

So what are Regis’ favorite stocks? He particularly likes Freeport-McMoran , Caterpillar, Goldman Sachs, Wynn and IBM, although he admits to taking some profits on these names recently, which the traders applauded as a good move.

So, what are Regis’ portfolio problems? Check out the video for how the traders think he should position himself and the plays he could make given his current strategies.
