After the headline crossed that John Paulson bought a major stake in Bank of America last quarter, the stock shot up immediately on the news. If these big money managers can instill confidence in individual stocks, you may be able to profit off their moves.
Karen Finerman breaks down the holdings of the major money managers as the markets can expect two more days of SEC filings. These holdings are as of 3/31/09 and may not be current.
Her favorite investor to look at is David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital, who has had notable positions in the past. His top holdings include stakes in Gold , URS Corp, EMC Corp and MEMC Electronic Materials.
Another big investor to follow is Carl Ichan, whose top holdings include Yahoo, Biogen Idec, Motorola and Amylin.
Finerman also likes Leon Cooperman of Omega Advisors, whose top holdings are AES Corp , Atlas America , Atlas Energy, eBay and Exelon.
Seth Klarman of Baupost group is another whale to watch. His top holdings include News Corp, PDL Biopharma , Theravance and Liberty Media .
But what to do with this information? Finerman points out that many of these investors are not quick to trade in and out of big positions, so she finds this information to still be useful. For more of Finerman's insight, check out the video!
