Unusual Volume Leaders

Many Wall Street analysts and experienced traders look for patterns or unusual activity on the average volume of certain stocks, which are often in conjunction with breaking news.

Amazon.com, for example, is trading today over 600% of its 10-day average volume, after the company reported better-than-expected earnings after the bell on Thursday. Sometimes, looking at unusual volume levels may help point you to research a stock you may not have been following.
