Madoff in Prison Hospital for Blood Pressure Treatment

Convicted swindler Bernard L. Madoff, who is serving a 150-year sentence in a federal prison in Butner, N.C., was moved to a low-security medical center at the prison last Friday, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

The Bureau declined to say why Mr. Madoff, 71, was moved there from a medium-security facility. But a person briefed on the matter said he was admitted to the medical facility after experiencing dizziness and high blood pressure and is remaining there for observation.

Mr. Madoff has been at the Butner prison complex since July.

The Bureau of Prisons denied news reports earlier this year that Mr. Madoff was suffering from cancer. His lawyer, Ira Sorkin, originally requested that Mr. Madoff be held at prison in the Northeast, but prison officials sent him to the Butner complex, which includes an advanced medical center and houses a number of older white-collar criminals.
