Investors are wondering how to game retail after Tiffany said shoppers were spending again.
In fact, the jeweler's flagship store at Fifth Ave in New York saw sales jump 20 percent.
Do these results bode well for other high-end retailers such as Ralph Lauren -- as a sign that consumers are indulging themselves, again?
Or is the strength pegged to Christmas with shoppers going downscale in the months ahead?
Karen Finerman may like to shop at Tiffany but as a value investor she is not a buyer of their stock.
Luxury stocks have gone too far too fast when you look at what’s happening in the underlying economy. Both Tiffany and Ralph Lauren are trading at significant premiums to their long-term multiple, she says.
Instead I feel more comfortable downscale with names like Walmart , Target and TJX. I like Target at current levels and TJX at $37.50.
