SAN JOSE, Calif., May 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nominations for this year's recipient of the Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) are being accepted until Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Sponsored by the EDA Consortium (EDAC) and the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA), the 17th annual award will be presented at a dinner ceremony Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Silicon Valley, Calif.
The Phil Kaufman Award recognizes individuals who have had a demonstrable impact on the field of EDA in areas ranging from business, industry direction and promotion to technology and engineering, educational or mentoring. It was established in honor of deceased EDA industry pioneer Phil Kaufman, who turned innovative technologies such as silicon compilation and emulation into businesses that have benefited electronic designers.
The Board of Directors of EDAC and CEDA have presented the Phil Kaufman Award annually since 1994. Dr. Randal E. Bryant, Dean and University Professor of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, was last year's Phil Kaufman Award recipient for his seminal technological breakthroughs in the area of formal verification. In addition to Dr. Bryant, previous Kaufman Award recipients include: Dr. Aart J. de Geus, Dr. Robert K. Brayton, Dr. Robert Dutton, Phil Moorby, Joe Costello, Dr. A. Hugo De Man, Dr. Ernest S. Kuh, James E. Solomon, Dr. Carver A. Mead, Dr. Donald O. Pederson (deceased), and Dr. Hermann K. Gummel.

The committee now also requires that archived nominations submitted prior to 2007 will need to be resubmitted on the new form for consideration.
