Pops & Drops: Gartner, Scotts Miracle Gro

Following are moves you might have missed. Find out why shares of Gartner and Scotts Miracle Gro popped while Nuance Communications and Ctrip.com dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Gartner (IT) popped 10%. The company posted better-than-expected second-quarter profit, raised its earnings and revenue forecast for the year, and said it will buy back $500 million in shares. - Looks like business is pretty good, says Karen Finerman.

HanesBrands (HBI) popped 6%. The garment maker announced plans to expand into the college logo apparel business with the acquisition of GearCo for $55 million. - The stock is doing well, says Joe Terranova.

Scotts Miracle Gro (SMG) popped 3%. The company posted a bigger quarterly profit as continued interest in gardening resulted in better sales. - I like it, says Brian Kelly.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Nuance Communications (NUAN) dropped 10%. Revenue trailed Street estimates, hurt by a weak performance in its mobile-enterprise segment. - That's no good, says Tim Seymour.

Ctrip.com (CTRP) dropped 3%. Though profits surged by 48%, quarterly results came in below analyst estimates. - I like it at these levels, says Pete Najarian.
