Do Sanctions Against Other Countries Work?

The most recent round of US sanctions disallow US companies from doing business with Iranian Banks. The US can also now penalize foreign suppliers of gasoline or potentially make them choose between doing business with Iran or the United States. Despite the sanctions, Iran's economy is still one of the strongest in the Middle East.

With that in mind, do you think sanctions are a good way to stop a country from doing something?
