Moving to the sidelines in Caterpillar may have looked like a smooth move at the time, but as it turns out, Tim Seymour fumbled this play.
The Ambassador made the fateful call on February 11th largely as a call on valuations.
“The thing with Caterpillar is,” he said at the time, “it's a valuation story that looks stretched. It's a cyclical play if you believe the industrial world is pulling back. I think Caterpillar is expensive on the current earnings front.”
Unfortunately no risk, no reward. Caterpillar climbed 9% since Seymour said to step aside.
