Every industry has its jargon. When a waiter, for instance, tells a cook to make a hamburger and “86 the garden,” it doesn’t mean much to the general public. However, the server and the cook both know that this means a hamburger without lettuce and tomato.
The financial sector is no different. It has its own jargon, shorthand that come in handy when considering an investment or when shouting an order across a frantic trading floor.
