Do Smurfs Wear Boxers or Briefs?

Mark your calendars.

June 25th is Global Smurfs Day.

I know, I know! Thank goodness someone told me.

To celebrate the birthday of Peyo, who created the Smurfs, Sony hopes to set a world record for the most people dressed up in Smurf outfits at the same time.

My guess is that would be three people.

Well, imagine my surprise to learn the current record is 2,510, set only two years ago in the UK, after surpassing the previous record set the year before in Ireland.

Why is Sony pushing the event? You are correct!! There is a Smurf movie coming out in July called "Smurf Happens".

So on June 25th, "Adjudicators from Guinness World Records® will be on hand in 12 cities around the world," says the press release, "as it is expected that hundreds of participants in each city will come to the event dressed as Smurfs (white Smurf hat, white pants and shoes, and body painted blue)."

Cities where fans will gather include New York, London, Mexico City, Panama City (PANAMA CITY??), Dublin, Brussels, Warsaw, Moscow, Johannesburg, and even Athens, where would-be Smurfs need to be careful they're not caught up in debt-related public protests. Clumsy, Hefty and Grouchy could end with black added to their blue. Smurf happens, indeed.

Crazy? Well, we live in crazy times.

How crazy?

As thousands of Smurfs prepare to expose themselves as a collective Blue Man Group, tens of thousands of other people have been spending their time voting on the best underwear in the world.

The 5th annual Undie Awardsjust announced this year's winners in bras, panties, boxers, and briefs.

In a turnabout, the favorite overall bra is the Timpa Duet Lace Underwire Demi Bra 16449, which you might call the anti-Wonder Bra. The favorite men's knit boxer is the 2xist Loose Knit Boxer 0100703, which the site tells us is favored by Daniel Craig. The site reveals the underwear preferences of a variety of celebrities, though I can live without knowing the details of Prince Charles' Manties.

No word yet on whether the Smurfs wear boxers or briefs, but I suspect we'll get an idea June 25th.
