SOWING FOR PROFITS
On Monday, Monsanto landed on the trader radar, after reports suggested the agriculture giant was taking major steps within China.
According to the WSJ, Monsanto is in advanced discussions with China seed producer Sinochem about some type of agreement and has been for months. It was unclear what form an agreement might take, though arrangements could include a large joint venture, the sale of a minority stake or Sinochem assuming a larger role marketing Monsanto products in China, the paper said.
How should you trade it?
Trader Zach Karabell says he likes Monsanto. “It doesn’t get the kind of attention that the pure ags get," he says, but it should.
"They’re going to be making seeds that are drought resistant and more fertilizer efficient. And that’s technology that China doesn’t have. I think the stock could be 50% higher a few years from now.”
