Delta has not approached U.S. Airways about a deal yet, according to a Wall Street Journal report, and also is looking at possibly acquiring AMR, the parent of American Airlines and under bankruptcy protection since November.

Sources told the Journal that Delta, the second-largest airline, sees itself as a leader in consolidating the industry but is weighing its options.

For its part, U.S. Airways is looking at industry consolidation as both a buyer and seller, with an AMR deal also on the table.

U.S. Airways shares jumped more than 7 percent in premarket trading.
