How the internet is regulated

The U.S. does not have one agency tasked with regulating the internet in its 21st century form. The Trump administration is calling for a reexamination of Section 230, the law that shields internet companies from being liable for the content posted on their sites. This struggle of who controls the internet started long ago, when the U.S. government handed over the backbone of the web to private companies.
