Reparations to the descendants of slaves could cost $12 trillion

The killing of George Floyd and ensuing protests for Black Lives Matter have pushed the conversation around a potential reparations program for descendants of slaves into the national debate. A number of politicians, states and towns are grappling with the idea on the local level. Experts have determined a federal compensation plan could cost the U.S. government between $10 trillion and $12 trillion.
