Tournament play at the Western and Southern Open — a precursor to the U.S. Open next week — was paused on Thursday due to protests from athletes regarding racial inequality and injustice. Tennis' big event had already been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Starting Monday, the U.S. Open will be played without an audience for the first time ever, in Queens, New York.
