The U.S. Mint will soon begin distribution of the Maya Angelou quarter.

The quarter is part of a larger American Women Quarters Program which highlights the contributions of women throughout U.S. history. The Mint will continue to issue up to five new quarter designs through the year 2025.

This year's honorees include physicist and astronaut Dr. Sally Ride; the first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, Wilma Mankiller; Nina Otero-Warren, who was a leader in the New Mexico suffrage movement; and Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American film star in Hollywood.

More information about the quarters program at the U.S. Mint can be found at the agency's website.
