Burlington Northern Shareholders to Vote February 11 on Berkshire Deal

A special Burlington Northern Santa Fe shareholders meeting has been scheduled for February 11 to vote on the railroad's planned $26 billion acquisition by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.

Buffett has called the deal a positive bet on the future of the U.S. economy.

A news release today from BNI says the company's Board of Directors has set the date and time for the meeting, but doesn't say where it will be held.

Shareholders of record as of December 18 will be entitled to vote.

Berkshire has scheduled a special meeting of its shareholders for January 20 to approve a 50-for-1 split of Berkshire's Class B shares.  That split is designed to facilitate the BNI deal.

The companies say they expect to close the transaction during the first three months of next year.   It received antitrust clearance from federal regulators late last week.
