Arianna Huffington on AOL Deal

AOL's purchase of "The Huffington Post" for $315 million will show how businesses can "create great quality journalism and be cost-effective at the same time," said Arianna Huffington on Monday.

As AOL's new president and editor-in-chief, Huffington said she's confident her Web site will blend well with AOL's other brands, which vary from TechCrunch and ThingLabs to About Me.

Huffington the success of her site is, in part, due to how news has become "increasingly social." The "Huffington Post" engages the user by allowing them to comment on stories, which is something it seems she'll integrate on other AOL brands.

With this deal, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong said the New York City-based company seeks to become the Internet's largest premium content provider, as well as the next U.S. company to go global.

"I think the future of the Internet is going to be about content," Armstrong stated.

AOL will have a combined base of 117 million visitors a month in the U.S. and reach 270 million people around the world. As it continues to grow, it will eventually occupy the largest space on the Internet. With advertising agencies looking for double-digit growth online, Armstrong thinks AOL will continue to benefit from increased ad sales.
