It appears as though the website of Muddy Waters, the small China-based research firm,has been hacked.
The website currently shows the message below.
Muddy Waters specializes in "undercovering fraudulent China stocks," according to Street Insider.
Monday, Carson Block, the firm's founder, issued a "strong sell"on Focus Media Holdings, a digital advertising company. The company alleged in its report that Focus Media misrepresented the number of screens in its LCD advertising network, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Focus Media responded to the firm's report in a press release stating that "The Report's allegation regarding the number of LCD display network screens in the Company's network is incorrect and reflects a misunderstanding in the types of devices used by the Company and their method of calculation."
