Jim Cramer is always looking for the next big thing. He may have found something.

A company called Mobeam.

"It's privately held," Cramer admitted, "so you can't invest in it." However, the company's technology is so revolutionary, the Mad Money host feels it warrants attention, nonetheless.

"You see Mobeam is changing the way we spend money," he said.

Mobeam has developed an app that allows smartphones to interact with check out terminals and cash registers at stores all over the nation.

Specifically, Mobeam converts barcodes, coupons, loyalty cards and gift cards into a beam of light that can be read by every one of the estimated 165 million laser scanners in use today by retailers worldwide.

"That means you can use your phone for virtually any transaction," Cramer said. And retailers prefer barcodes because they don't have to install any new infrastructure to support them.

That's big.

Now, it should be noted that currently Mobeam's apps only work on Samsung phones, Cramer explained. Nonetheless, he feels it speaks volumes about the way people will shop in the not too distant future.

"It says to me that people will literally use their smartphones for everything, one device where you store all of your information," Cramer said.

That's a trend worth watching. If Cramer's right, it should play out over several years.
