Watch out, Chipotle, another eatery chain is courting your burrito fans.

While Chipotle Mexican Grill closes its doors for a national safety meeting on part of Feb. 8, fast-casual competitor Freshii plans to temporarily halve the cost of its Mexican menu items to try to lure in Chipotle customers.

The chain plans to discount all its Mexican dishes — one per customer — in all of its 200 locations in more 15 countries.

"Like millions of other people, we at Freshii are big fans of Chipotle," said Matthew Corrin, Freshii's founder and CEO, in a statement. "We figured the least we would do was look after their customers while Chipotle pauses to recalibrate."

Chipotle, under scrutiny for months over outbreaks of foodborne illness linked to its restaurants across several U.S. states, saw sales plunge 30 percent in December.

"If a few Chipotle customers fall in love with a Freshii menu item, we hope they'll come back to both stores more often," Corrin added.

Chipotle did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
