In a CNBC exclusive interview Tuesday, Barclays CEO Jes Staley discusses his views on the company's restructuring and managing the bank in a low-rate environment.

"The challenge we need to do is wind down our noncore assets as we simplify Barclays' business model," Staley told CNBC. He added, "This is a very complicated environment in terms of monetary policy, we are for sure in uncharted waters."

Staley spent more than 30 years as a investment banker at JPMorgan Chase before becoming CEO of Barclays in December.
