Wayback Burgers' annual Triple Triple Challenge returns on Sept. 18. Now in its ninth year, the eating competition rewards the contestant who eats a nine-patty burger — with nine slices of cheese, lettuce and tomato — the fastest.

For comparison, first place winners of Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating competition earn $10,000 for their efforts.

The 1,780-calorie burger will set customers back between $17 and $23 depending on their location.

"The competition can be fierce, as last year's winner and defending 'chompion', Molly Schuyler, devoured the burger in just over 40 seconds," said John Eucalitto, president of Wayback Burgers, in a statement. "We look forward to seeing if anyone can dethrone her record."

So far, more than 800 people have signed up for the Connecticut-based burger chains' challenge. Wayback Burger currently operates more than 120 locations in 26 states.

Those bold enough to accept Wayback Burgers' challenge must be over 16 and are required to sign a liability waiver. Contestants must acknowledge that they "will be engaging in activities that involve risk of damage to personal property or serious injury, including choking, vomiting, or feeling nauseous or dizzy, and social and economic losses."

Interested customers can register online or walk into a participating Wayback Burgers on Sept. 18.
