Last chance to earn up to $1,000 toward travel with the Capital One Venture

This offer is worth $250 more than the standard welcome bonus, but it ends soon.

The offer mentioned below for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is no longer available.

If you're in the market for a top-notch travel credit card, now is the right time to take a good hard look at the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. It currently has an increased welcome offer that includes a $250 credit to use for Capital One Travel bookings in your first year, but it's not lasting for much longer.

This is on top of the standard 75,000 bonus miles you'll earn after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening. You can use Capital One miles to offset travel purchases at 1 cent per point, which makes this limited-time deal worth at least $1,000 toward travel.

Last chance: Capital One Venture bonus

The Capital One Venture typically offers a welcome bonus of about 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening. That's a valuable welcome offer by itself. However, with this limited-time deal, you'll get $250 in travel credits to use in the first year for Capital One Travel bookings.

Welcome bonuses are among the most cost-effective ways to earn points or miles, so elevated welcome offers are highly sought after. The miles you earn via your Venture card are also more valuable than simple cash back, as they're a lot more flexible in terms of how you can use them.

Using your Capital One miles

You can redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent each in a few ways, including toward Capital One Travel bookings. This allows you to easily combine the $250 travel credit and your bonus miles (75,000 = $750) to pay for $1,000 in travel.

You can use miles to book all sorts of travel through Capital One, including flights, hotels and rental cars. You'll also be able to book certain entertainment as well, from Major League Baseball games to Bruno Mars concerts.

If you're looking to make your miles go further than a single cent, you can also transfer Capital One miles to a long list of partner airline and hotel loyalty programs. By taking advantage of the best deals offered by these partners, you can greatly expand what you do with your miles.

For example, if you want to book a one-way Star Alliance business class flight from the U.S. to Europe, you could book directly through Capital One Travel and use the Venture Rewards welcome bonus to cover $1,000 of the cost. Depending on the route and airline, a one-way business-class flight to Europe can easily cost $3,000 or more and leave you paying $2,000+ out of pocket.

Since Capital One miles also transfer directly to Turkish Airlines, you could also transfer 65,000 miles to Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles and book a one-way Star Alliance business-class flight. Even after accounting for the taxes and fees (typically $200+ for business class awards), you're paying far less than you would by booking directly through Capital One. While paying for award flights with miles can often save you a lot of money, they can be harder to find and require some creative booking.

Can't qualify for the Venture? Alternative cards to consider

The Capital One Venture requires good to excellent credit to qualify, so it might be difficult to get approved depending on your finances. If you have a thin credit profile or a poor credit score and can't prequalify for the card, the U.S. Bank Cash+® Secured Visa® Card might be a better fit.

While it's not directly a travel card, it's much more accessible to those with lower credit. Plus, you still earn rewards; the card earns 5% cash back in two categories of your choosing on up to your first $2,000 in combined eligible purchases each quarter (then 1%). U.S. Bank offers a total of 12 categories where you can earn 5%, including fast food, department stores, fitness centers and more.
