The price of insulin is leading some diabetics to take risks by rationing their doses, buying it from other countries and even trying to make their own. A team of biohackers in Oakland, California are working to make small batch insulin possible. The founder of the Open Insulin Project is a Type 1 diabetic and wants to prove there are easier, cheaper ways to make insulin rather than rely on the big manufacturers like Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi.
