Remember these retailers?

Retail may be the second-oldest profession, but that doesn't mean all retailers have eternal staying power. While the 2008 financial crisis wiped out more than a dozen major companies, others have been casualties to the e-commerce boom.

Behemoths, Wal-Mart and Target have also wiped out a number of others unable to compete with the pricing power and general reach of big-box stores. And with the advent of fast-fashion stores such as H&M and Zara, teen retailers are some of the latest names to be taken down by the competition.

As CNBC looks forward to the next 25 years in retail, we've pulled together a list of just some of retailers that have disappeared over the last 25 years. Bring on the nostalgia.
