Citi launched a refreshed AAdvantage Executive Mastercard with $600+ in new benefits. Here’s how it compares to other options

The additional benefits far outweigh the cost increase, but the lounge access remains the selling point for this card.

Citi is an advertising partner.

The card formerly known as the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® has new benefits, a new name and an increased annual fee of $695.

Now known as the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard®, the card's core value remains the same despite the changes: Admirals Club lounge access. If you're interested in visiting American Airlines Admirals Club lounges, this card remains the most affordable option as the price of a paid full membership recently increased.

Let's take a look at what's changed and what's staying the same.

Citi AAdvantage Executive card changes

While this card is only now adding World Legend to its name, it has been a World Legend Mastercard since last year, a Citi spokesperson told CNBC Select. You'll continue to have access to perks such as priority dining reservations and premium event tickets.

What is changing is the card's annual fee, which has increased by $100. Cardholders also now have access to over $600 in new annual credits, including:

  • American Airlines Vacations credits: Up to $500 in statement credits every calendar year on eligible American Airlines Vacations travel packages or experiences
  • Inflight and Admirals Club credits: Up to $100 in statement credits for inflight and eligible Admirals Club purchases every calendar year
  • Lyft credits: A $15 Lyft credit after taking three eligible rides in that calendar month, for a total of up to $180 per year

Previously, you could earn up to $120 in Lyft credit every year; now you can earn an additional $60 in new Lyft credits annually.

You can also earn more AAdvantage miles and elite status credit (Loyalty Points). Eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings now earn 12X AAdvantage miles instead of the previous 10X miles, and the card has new Loyalty Point milestones.

The refreshed Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard now offers up to 40,000 bonus Loyalty Points per year, with the addition of 10,000-point bonuses for reaching 165,000 and 240,000 Loyalty Points in a status qualification year. Previously, you could earn up to 20,000 bonus Loyalty Points each status qualification year: 10,000 Loyalty Points once you reached 50,000 Loyalty Points and another 10,000 after reaching 90,000 Loyalty Points.

New rental car and hotel perks

If you're the primary cardholder of the Citi Executive Mastercard, you can enroll to receive complimentary Avis President's Club status. This is Avis' highest tier of status and includes perks such as double upgrades on weekends (when available) and guaranteed car availability for eligible bookings.

Primary cardholders can also enroll to receive complimentary Omni Hotels & Resorts Champion Status. This grants perks such as early check-in, late check-out and a complimentary upgrade when available. In addition, once per calendar year, you can receive an Omni Free Night Reward after completing a qualifying stay booked directly with Omni Hotels & Resorts (two-night minimum required).

What benefits are staying the same?

The Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard continues to earn AAdvantage miles at the following rates:

  • 4X miles on eligible American Airlines purchases
  • 5X miles on eligible American Airlines purchases for the remainder of the year after you spend $150,000 or more on your card in a calendar year
  • 1X miles on all other purchases

Cardholders can also take advantage of over $400 in existing credits and continue to receive benefits such as Admirals Club access and free checked bags:

  • Rental car credit: Up to $120 in statement credits for prepaid rental cars booked directly with Avis and Budget per calendar year
  • Grubhub credit: Up to $120 in Grubhub credit ($10 per billing cycle) every 12 billing statements
  • Trusted traveler program credit: Up to $120 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credits every four years
  • Admirals Club membership: Access to nearly 50 Admirals Club airport lounges (as well as partner lounges for the primary cardholder) for you and your immediate family or two guests (a value of up to $850); a same-day boarding pass for an eligible American Airlines flight is required
  • First checked bag free: You and up to eight companions on the same reservation will receive your first checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries (normally $45 to $55 per first checked bag)
  • Priority privileges: Enjoy priority check-in, screening and boarding (Group 4) when traveling with American Airlines
  • 25% savings on eligible inflight purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees

Who does this card make sense for?

The Citi Executive Mastercard makes the most sense for anyone who would otherwise pay cash for an Admiral Club airport lounge membership or those who are extremely loyal to American Airlines.

Even with the $100 annual fee increase, paying for this card is still much cheaper than shelling out for a lounge membership. On Aug. 23, 2026, American Airlines revamped its Admirals Club memberships, which now cost:

  • Admirals Club membership (up to two complimentary guests and to access partner lounges): $1,200 to $1,400, or 120,000 to 140,000 miles, based on your elite status level
  • Single membership (no complimentary guests): $750 or 75,000 miles

Primary cardholders receive a full Admirals Club membership with complimentary access to partner lounges for themselves and eligible family members or up to two guests. You can also add up to three authorized users for $175 a year (additional authorized users cost $175 a year each). Every authorized user receives Admirals Club access (no partner lounge access) for themselves and eligible family members or up to two guests.

The cost of adding authorized users is staying the same, which makes adding cardmembers an even better deal than before.

Alternative cards to consider

If the Citi AAdvantage Executive card isn't a great fit for you, there are alternatives that offer airport lounge access, AAdvantage miles and American Airlines elite status credit.

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® has a much smaller $99 annual fee, which is waived for the first year. It also provides a free first checked bag on domestic American Airlines flights for the primary cardholder and up to four companions on the same reservation. You'll also earn AAdvantage miles on every purchase and 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent on purchases.
