When you run a small business, there are many opportunities and challenges. Some you'll be able to leverage and some you will not. But you can't go down for the count when you get dealt a blow. Sure, you may teeter, but the key to successful entrepreneurship is to deal with setbacks.
Here are two ways you can deal with setbacks -- and come back better than before:
- Write down what went wrong and why: Use this as a learning opportunity and create a journal that you can refer to down the road. Record the ways you tried to fix the problem and which of them worked. Rinse. Repeat. It won't take long before you have created your own problem-solving manual!
- There's a lot to be said for dignity: We've all met those people that take defeat, loss and bad luck in stride and come back kicking in spite of it. They are the type of people others admire for their spirit and fortitude. Now's your turn to be one of them. Showing grace under fire may not solve your problem in the short term, but it does affect how others perceive you, and can impact whether they want to invest in or partner with you.
